All storage water heaters shall have an energy factor not less than the value shown in the Guidelines for Energy Efficient Construction for the City of Burlington. ![]() (g) Energy factors for storage water heaters. Plumbing piping in exterior building walls or areas subjected to freezing temperatures shall be protected against freezing by insulation, heat or both. (f) Protection from freezing in climates with freezing temperatures. All pipes and fillings shall be installed in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations for installation, except where more stringent standards are required by this article. Lead pipe shall not be used to convey potable water to the building or to serve as the water distribution pipe within or under the building. Special wastes shall be treated and installed in accordance with the plumbing code currently in effect in the State of Vermont, and the materials used for drain waste and vent piping to convey special wastes shall be approved by the plumbing inspector. All pipe materials shall meet the standards of the plumbing rules currently in effect in the State of Vermont. Plumbing materials shall comply with the State of Vermont Plumbing Rules’ approved materials list. (b) Materials shall comply with all applicable plumbing, fire prevention and building code rules. All soil and vent pipes and fittings within a building, and for a distance of ten (10) feet outside the foundation wall, shall, except as otherwise specified in this chapter, be installed in accordance with the materials and standards specified in the currently adopted plumbing code and rules. (a) Installation of plumbing and drainage shall be done in order to meet specifications of the plumbing rules and adopted codes currently in effect in the State of Vermont.
